the spring is here and this is right time to test Espar high altitude kit in my Nugget.
I had many problems with Westfalia OEM D4S heater in temperatures under -10 on my winter trips above 1500 m, and I´m able to accept Eberspaecher second pump kit ONLY as the very last option (technically too old for year 2014) .

Probably only very few installations were done in Europe and if so, in the UK only.
On this bases, I will start soon with self-made work.

As the first I need to get through the floor with wires.
Therefore really need to know the original name of "BLACK MASTIC" as on the attached photograph.

Do you know what kind of mastic is it please ?

Als erstes muss mit den Kabeln ich durch den Fahrzeugboden kommen.
Daher brauche ich den originalen Namen der schwarzen Dichtmasse wie sie auf dem beigefügten Foto zu erkennen ist.

Kann mir jemand sagen, was das für eine Dichtmasse ist ?

if I see right this is under the right seat? By consistence I would guess that it is a sealing compount based on polyurethane, something like Sikaflex 221, widely used for this type of bodywork.

Yes, this point is located under right seat.

Unfortunately, this is not Sikaflex 221 or 252i.
I have rich experience with using both Sikaflex from my last camper constructions.

This mastic is very plastic (tractable), easy to strech and so on .... I have never seen such mass - therefore try to ask here ...

As the first I must have this stuff in my hands before I will remove original and start with Espar kit installation .....

Diese Dichtmasse hier ist sehr plastisch (dehnbar), einfach zu verformen und so weiter .... Ich habe noch nie eine solche Masse gesehen - deshalb möchte ich lieber vorher hier nachfragen ...

Als erstes muss ich diese Dichtmasse in meinen Händen haben, bevor ich das Originale entferne und mit der Installation des Espar Höhenkompensator-Kit beginne .....

Yes, I can put through the black mastic needed wires .... but prefer to make a "clear" job.
I had exchanged single seat for double seat (14 days in summer), and wires got i contact with this mastic for a moment and you can see on picture above - mastic stays on wires until today.
If I would put wiret through, expect to spend long time with cleaning .....

Espar "magic box" should save myself from installing Eberspaecher second pump hohenkit and do the same job, just different way based on pressure reading with following compensation on fuel supply ....

Ja, ich kann die notwendigen Kabel durch die schwarze Dichtmasse bekommen … aber ich bevorzuge es, einen ‘sauberen‘ Job zu machen.
Ich habe den Beifahrer-Einzelsitz gegen eine Doppelbank getauscht (für 14 Tage im Sommer) und Kabel sind für einen kurzen Moment mit der schwarzen Dichtmasse in Kontakt gekommen- und wie man auf dem Bild oben sieht, ist die Masse heute noch dort.
Wenn ich Kabel dort durch stecke, erwarte ich eine lange Reinigungszeit …
Die ESPAR ‘Zauber-Box‘ soll mich davor bewahren den Eberspächer Höhenkit mit der zweiten Pumpe einzubauen, er soll den selben Job tun, den Luftdruck messen und nachfolgend die Kraftstoffzufuhr entsprechend anpassen …

I have already gotten English technical list for DEKASeal ...
Rudi is right, basically any sealant does the job, but I would not like to remove for example Sikaflex 221 from wires in the future.
Black mastic is easily to remove.

I´m not sure about my success, but everybody on American continent is almost sure that Espar will work - in the UK too.
Many times was used for Westfalia Airstream - what is not nothing different than Westafalia James Cook by US owners.
I think all Westfalia diesel heaters are the same (from same age).
Espar main technican checked my heater duplicate with good result.
Westfalia technican in Rheda had checked too with no averse reaction, just said cannot confirm, our official way is .......

Of cause, I will make a photo story of this adventure

Ich habe inzwischen ein englisches Datenblatt für DEKAseal bekommen …

Rudi hat recht, im Prinzip erfüllt jedes Dichtmittel diesen Zweck, aber ich möchte später zum Beispiel kein Sikaflex 221 von den Kabeln entfernen müssen.
Die schwarze Dichtmasse ist einfach zu entfernen.

Ich bin nicht sicher ob ich erfolgreich sein werde, aber jedermann auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent ist sich sicher, das ESPAR funktioniert, in England ebenso.

Sehr oft wurde es genutzt für den Westfalia Airstream, dieser ist nichts anderes als ein amerikanischer Westfalia James Cook.
Ich denke alle Westfalia Standheizungen sind die gleichen (wenn sie aus dem gleichen Jahr stammen).

Ein ESPAR Techniker hat meine Standheizung mit gutem Ergebnis geprüft.

Ein Westfalia Techniker in Rheda Wiedenbrück prüfte es ebenfalls, er sagte nur – er könne es nicht bestätigen – die offizielle Westfalia-Lösung ist die zweite parallele Pumpe …

Hello Nugget friends,

I know, I´m very slow, but first success is here.

Today I have completed high altitude compensator instalation in my oldest camper.
For security reasons I didn´t like to test my skills on my Nugget .

I´m at normal sea level, therefore can´t confirm if compensation is followed, but my D4 starts up normally, heats normally, slow down normally and even switch off and restarts normally.

Connection was pretty easy, because this camper was built by myself, therefore I know great every wire inside - expect more problems with Nugget.

Green LED works as it should work, blinks on every pump impulse - I like it very much.

This installation is only for TEST REASONS, therefore please overlook how wiring was made.
I will reconnect this D4 to original wiring tomorrow and finally start work on Nugget next week .

I still beleave that D4S - Westafalia OEM will work with this genius device .... but who knows hehehe ....

The big day is comming soon ....

ich weiss, ich bin sehr langsam, aber das erste Erfolgserlebnis ist da .

Heute habe ich die Installation des Höhen-Kompensator-Kits bei meinem ältesten Wohnmobil fertig gestellt.
Ich wohne auf Meereshöhe, daher kann ich nicht bestätigen, ob die Kompensation funktioniert, aber meine D4 (Standheizung) startet normal, heizt normal, regelt wieder normal herunter, schaltet sich aus und startet wieder.

Der Anschluss war sehr einfach, da ich das Wohnmobil selbst ausgebaut habe, kenne ich jedes Kabel – im Nugget erwarte ich mehr Probleme.

Die grüne LED arbeitet wie sie soll, blinkt bei jedem Pumpen-Impuls – ich mag es.

Dieser Einbau dient nur zu VERSUCHSZWECKEN, also bitte über die Verkabelung hinwegsehen.
Ich werde diese D4 morgen wieder wie ursprünglich verkabeln und dann nächste Woche die Arbeit an meinem Nugget beginnen

Ich glaube fest, dass die D4S-Westfalia OEM Standheizung mit diesem genialen Gerät arbeiten wird …. aber wer weiss …
