Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread but unfortunately I don't speak German so I have to rely on google translate 
If there is a Solar thread that this query might be best directed to, please do tell me.
I'm planning to buy a ford westfalia nugget (you can see it here: www.subito.it/vi/145519057.htm).
Since I'm planning to be living in it & working in it, I will definitely need to fit it with solar energy panels.
However I'm not at all an expert and I do need some help to know the followings before I do this purchase:
- right now the van is equipped with a 2nd or "service" battery (100 amps- don't know the voltage yet but will ask). This is enough to run the lights, water pump, and plug in an electri fridge and electric camp stove. It is connected through an inverter to the motor battery. I don't know the caracteristics of the inverter as it is hidden from view and the owner can't access it (will see it when I visit). But he said he wouldn't overcharge it with anything else (e.g. heating or other electrical devices).
-now the following Qs:
has anyone ever mounted a solar panel on the pop-up roof of a Nugget? (I reckon I need at least 120/140w to run the heating in winter & charge my computer & camera daily) If no, why? Is yes, what is the maximum weight a pop up roof can hold when open? (usable dimensions of the roof are 180x140cm).
what is the model you recommend- what maker?

alternatively, would it be possible to screw one on the lefthand side? (onto the blackened out window, so to speak) I guess I would need a system to best orientate it - any suggestions fro anyone who's done it?
finally, what heating system do you use in your Nugget for winter and what do you recommend? (Ventilator/electric stove- and what brand and make?)

General informations about solar could be found in this (very large) thread - if you've enough time and much patience ...
... best here to start from end backwards ...
... and about your observed Nugget - please look very thoroughly for rust - the grey coloured waist and the many aluminium sheets dont't look very trusting ...
An inverter transforms 12V DC in 230V AC - but this is no option for electric heating (too much energy consumption) - but normally a nugget (even the early model years) has a fuel driven air heater made from EberspÀcher. This heater only need electricity from the 2nd/service-battery for starting and for running of the ventilation of the warm air.
A few pictures of an older (MY 1989) Nugget are actually in mobile.de - no recommendation - just for showing the interior.
There should be a control unit inside - named Westfalia E153 - which controls the fridge, the heater and the battery status.
I hope you'll find the Nugget which is suitable to you

P.S The first MYs of the Nugget had a two flame alcool (in german 'Spiritus' or 'Brennspiritus' - in french 'alcool à brûler' - in italian google says 'alcool denaturato' cooking stove - later models a two flame gas stove with a blue 2,8 kg gasbottle from CampinGaz.
Additional to the amazon solar panel (which would fullfill your requirements) you'll need a charge controller (f.e. Votronic SR140 , a 20 Amp fuse, a few metres of 4 mmÂČ solar cable in red and black, aluminium L-profile or plastic solar spoiler to mount the panel and special adhesive (f.e. Sikaflex) to stick the profiles on top of the roof.
